Blogging and Social Media Tips

As most of you may know, I am in graduate school. One of my classes this semester is Social Media Theory and Practice (so fun!). For this week’s assignment, we are supposed to interview a person that is relevant to our blog and ask them their blogging tips and suggestions for our individual blogs. I decided to reach out to Alicia from Fashion by Alicia who I met at a blogging conference last year. I’ve seen her blog grow into a very successful fashion platform. Here is what she had to say:

How do you use social media to promote your blog and in your personal life?

Social media is huge for promoting your blog.  The different social media outlets reach many different readers that you would not reach without these devices.  For my blog, I have a Facebook Page and a twitter account.  Each day, I post my blog post to my Facebook page. If the post is an outfit post, I also include photos on my Facebook page separately.  I try to pose questions, sale alerts, and deals on my Facebook page to get interaction with my readers.  Facebook has been great to promote my blog, but twitter has really been the most useful.  I schedule tweets throughout the day to promote my blog post.  I have made great friendships with other bloggers on twitter but most important I have made great connections with businesses.  I have worked with businesses that I have communicated on twitter to sponsor posts or do giveaways.  Social media has made my blog even better.

What suggestions do you have for my blog (J9 STYLE) for improvement?

I love J9 Style.  The blog shows how to look stylish on a budget.  My one suggestion would be to have several photos showing different aspects of the look including shoes and accessories.

What suggestions do you have for other bloggers?

 My one suggestion for other bloggers is to stay true to yourself.  I first started my blog to have fun and I still have fun everyday.  Do not get caught up in the numbers of how many people view your blog, instead have fun and enjoy what you do.  If you are enjoying what you do the blog numbers will follow.  I would also utilize social media.  There are so many social media outlets including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.  I have each of these and try to be active with each.  Becoming active with the social media tools help bring different followers and readers.
