Outfits on the Cheap: Springtime Pastels

I wanted to try either an all pastel look or all neon look. Since my outfit was for work, I opted for pastels as neons may not work in the office environment. Plus, I feel that pastels are very essence of springtime while neons are more appropriate for summer.

J9′s Top 9 Spring 2012 Trends

This spring’s trends are not for the faint of heart. Spilling into summer, these trends are full of bold colors and statements ranging from neon to peplum. If you’re shy or on the conservative side, you can still rock this year’s spring trends by adding small accents with accessories. If you’re not shy from trends, now is your chance to make a statement all spring and summer long.

1. Spring 2012 Trend: Neon Colors

I haven’t seen neon colors since the mid-nineties, and they are back and better than ever. Nothing says warm weather like bright, almost glow-in-the-dark colors and even just a pop of neon will make a statement with any outfit. If you really want to embrace the trend, try different neon color combos.

2. Spring 2012 Trend: Stripes

Probably my favorite trend of the season, stripes give off a sophisticated, nautical vibe that I can’t get enough of. Beyond the shirt, you can wear stripes with dresses, jackets and accessories. I like to pair stripes with bold colors and prints to show off this trend’s versatility.

3. Spring 2012 Trend: Color Block Shoes

Color blocking with clothes entered the mainstream fashion scene last year and now this trend has evolved to shoes. One of my favorite aspects of color blocking shoes is that I don’t have to pick a color. It’s like getting two or three shoes for one! And for someone who can’t easily make up their mind like me, this is great.

4. Spring 2012 Trend: Peplum

Although I love the retro feel of peplum, I’m a little weary to try this trend with my pear-shaped figure. The last thing a pear-shaped girl wants to do it draw more attention to her hips. However, if I had any other figure type, I’d totally rock it. So if you do, please wear it for me!

 5. Spring 2012 Trend: Bold Print Pants

Last year, bold color pants entered the scene and now bold print pants have followed. This is another trend that makes this pear-shaped girl a little nervous as it draw attention to the lower half of the body. But the quirky, eccentric side of me totally wants to wear these this season. Would you?

6. Spring 2012 Trend: Pastels

Pastels are the antithesis of neons and they are a great way for those with a slightly tamer side to get comfortable with color blocking. I love pastels since they are the epitome of feminine and pretty style. They are also refreshing to look at.

7. Spring 2012 Trend: Orange

I have to admit, when I heard orange was the color of the season and for 2012 overall, I was a bit underwhelmed. I always thought of it as hard to pair with other colors, but boy, was I wrong. It’s a bright, sunny, and cheerful color that goes with just about any other color (except brown and black- unless you want to look like Halloween or Thanksgiving). Have fun with different shades such as creamsicle, burnt orange and, of course, neon orange!

8. Spring 2012 Trend: Mint

Another spring color trend that will also freshen your breath is mint. This color just makes me want to say “Ahh…” and lay by the pool without a care in the world. It’s also a fun color to try with nail polish and eye shadow.

9. Spring 2012 Trend: Nude, Neutral Nails

With all the color going on this season, it’s nice to neutralize an outfit with nude color nails. Pick a natural shade that compliments your skin tone to accomplish this simple, yet polished look.

Which spring trend is your favorite? Which one will you try this season?
