As mentioned earlier this week, I’ve captured some outfits during my blogging hiatus. Some of these outfits include boots and tights from the winter. I loved this casual Friday outfit that I wore a few months ago when the weather was still cool. It blends two of my favorite preppy looks: nautical and equestrian.
I neither sail nor ride horses, but a girl can pretend right? I’ve searched TWO YEARS for a navy blazer within my budget and finally scored this one at Marshalls (surprise) over Christmas. I love the nautical feel and gold buttons.

One of the stops in my many travels last month was Austin, TX. The weather was cool and sunny and I got to see some of the sights in between my hectic work schedule. After being in California for two days, I had to catch a very early flight to Austin. I was jet lagged, tired, and grateful for these boots as they provided the foundation for my outfits during this trip (see how I wore polka dots and cognac in California).
The light wasn’t great inside the Capital Building, but this one came out better (with my head cut off):
Black Wrap Sweater: $12, Charlotte Russe
Striped Turtleneck: $10, Steve and Barry’s (really old)
Skinny Jeans: $15, Old Navy
Cognac Boots: $74, on clearance from DSW
Purse: $12, on clearance from Target
Total Outfit: $123
I was so glad I brought these boots and this purse on my travels. What items are you always sure to bring when you’re traveling?

I love it when my favorite trends collide to make a fabulous outfit. This office look is a perfect example on how you can take a staple wardrobe item like a pencil skirt and pair it with key accessories for a stylish, yet professional outfit.
This outfit is also an example of how to ease in mixing prints. I refer to stripes as the “neutral print” because it easily pairs with others. See my article for Creative Fashion on how to wear stripes.
Striped Shirt: $14, Ross
Statement Necklace: $17, So Good Boutique in NYC
Black Pencil Skirt: $50, LOFT
Love Ring: $4, Body Central

I love the bauble necklace and finally broke down and bought one (I know I’m a year or so late on the trend). I think the bauble necklace is going to define this fashion era. Much like how Doc Martens represent the 90’s and poodle skirts represent the 50’s, I think the bauble necklace will be remembered as the trend of the 2010’s.
Occasion: At the Office
Striped Dress: $19.99, Marshalls
Black Cardigan: $10, on clearance at Target
Earrings: c/o Anjolee
Blue Bauble Necklace: $8, New York & Company (got this on clearance on Black Friday)

Total Outfit: $37.99

Do you own a bauble necklace? What new trend do you think will represent this decade?
As a pear-shaped gal, I always have a challenging time finding a dress that fits perfectly. I usually have to buy a certain size and take the dress to a tailor to have the waist and chest taken in. I can’t tell you how many dresses I’ve passed up buying because of this time-consuming and costly nuisance.
So when eShakti contacted me to try their clothes, I was super excited. eShakti is an online boutique that designs fabulous dresses, skirts, blouses and jackets, but lets you customize the fit to flatter your unique figure.
When I saw this belted poplin dress with polka dots and a striped belt, I had to have it. I entered my measurements (it helps to have someone help you measure certain areas) along with some other customizations like hemline and sleeve length. A few days later, the custom-sized dress was delivered to my doorstep.
Gotta love a dress with pockets!
Another element I love about this online boutique is the array of classic and flattering patterns and silhouettes they offer. It is the perfect place to stock up on outfits for work or special occasions. They update their pieces often, so be sure to check the website on a regular basis.
Have you worn anything from eShakti before? Do you have to tailor your clothes sometimes to fit your body type?
I’m so glad to be blogging again! I took my annual digital detox over the holidays to recharge my brain. No email. No blogs. No social media (I did cheat on Facebook once). I even stayed at a family member’s house that had no internet!
Although I enjoyed my break, I’m so glad to be back and can’t wait to check my favorite blogs again. I’m also happy to start a new year and begin my resolutions which include getting back to the gym to lose the holiday weight and blogging more how-to and tip articles instead of outfit posts.
As a little welcome back celebration, I’m wearing my two all-time favorite trends: stripes and polka dots (I realize I’m already breaking a resolution here).
Striped Sweater: $12, on clearance at Target
Polka Dot Blouse: $16, Marshalls
Neon Statement Necklace: $0, c/o Park Lane Jewelry
Black Skinny Jeans: $18, Marshalls
Wedge Boots: $15, on clearance at Target

What are your New Year resolutions?
Is it me, or is everyone wearing cobalt this week? I had to make a quick business trip this week to southern California. The weather was perfect! I took full advantage of real fall weather to wear a sweater, scarf and boots. I wore this outfit walking around and enjoying the sights after my work meetings. When I returned home, my inbox was full of cobalt outfits and styles from bloggers and retailers.

Have a great weekend!
Where to get cobalt:
The last day of the Miami Marshalls trip was both relaxing and exciting. We spent the first part of the day relaxing at the gorgeous Fontainebleau Hotel. It has a beautiful private beach with a boardwalk and multiple pools.
After lunch, we checked out and were picked up to attend the final Fabulous Found Fashion Tour. We were able to see all the latest fashions and play in their virtual dressing rooms.
It was very hot (typical Miami weather), so I’m glad I wore this lightweight striped shirt and polka dot skirt.
I also got the chance to meet Carmen from Viva Fashion and properly display my love for Marshalls.
We had a little time to spare before my flight, so what did we do? Went shopping at Marshalls. I scored a red lace dress and tan sheer camp shirt both under $40! Can’t wait to style these new pieces.
A huge THANK YOU to Marshalls and the team for selecting me as their Casting Call winner and treating me like a VIP! This is a trip I will never forget and I will remain a loyal Marshalls fan forever!
If you can’t tell, I really love stripes. It is the most versatile pattern. Stripes work for all seasons and complement many colors and prints. It also come in many different colors, sizes and textures. This neutral print exudes nautical glam in warmer months and preppy chic in the cold season.
Here are some fond outfit memories with stripes. And if you crave even more, read the two posts below.
If a striped top makes you appear wider, wear a color cardigan or jacket to balance your upper half out. If you’re reluctant to wear a dress or skirt with stripes, opt for an A-line silhouette or vertical stripes.
Do you love stripes as much as I do?

More Stripes I Love:
Here is a casual Friday look that I love. It combines three of my favorite trends: stripes, leopard and scarves. It took me months to find a solid yellow scarf and I finally found one at the General Store in Beaufort, NC! Go figure! The stripes and scarf ensemble is another outfit I would wear on my dream Paris vacation (see what else I would wear). Although I’m not planning on visiting Paris anytime soon, I am going somewhere else exciting. Can’t wait to share my adventure with you all soon!
Striped Shirt: $14, Target, similar
Yellow Scarf: $10.99, General Store in NC, similar
